Employment Opportunities at The Tutor Group

Interested in Becoming a TTG Tutor?

Potential tutors and mentor tutors can apply year-round. That being said, most hiring happens before the Fall back-to-school season, but we may have mid-year positions for the right candidates.

Does Your Profile Fit?

TTG Tutors applicant must fulfill the following requirements:

  • We are looking for experienced teachers, tutors or instructor-educators able to tutor several subject areas and serve a wide age/grade range.

  • You are expected to be available at times convenient for our students and families. Prime tutoring time is after school and early weekday evenings with some weekend work. Be sure to specify your availability during these time slots in any application. We also have requests for daytime weekday tutoring but this is not sufficient availability on its own.

  • You must have experience with various learning profiles and many types of families and students. An understanding of special needs is preferred, though not required for regular tutoring.

  • You should be an excellent communicator by phone and email, in person and in writing including reports. We welcome a knowledge of other languages and cultures, but hire only fluent English speakers who can communicate professionally, yet with ease and empathy.

  • You should have glowing references who are available for contact (we check… carefully!)

  • You must provide an updated local Police Check allowing you to work with vulnerable persons.

Other Requirements

You must have a car and be available for TTG tutoring at least 8 (to 20+) hours/week after school, early evenings and weekend slots; daytime tutoring work at other times is very limited. Our tutors travel to students’ homes, schools or meet in the student’s community, so the ability to travel quickly from one student to the next with various materials handy is a must.

Applicants must be able to commit to working with TTG for at least one year from start date. We are grateful that most of our tutors have stayed on with us well beyond year one. In fact, several have reached the 10, 15 and even 20+ year mark with our company!

How To Apply

In order to apply for a tutoring position, please forward us the following:

  • your current resume and at least three references who can be contacted by phone or email;
  • a cover letter confirming how you meet the above criteria. In that letter, please include why this particular position appeals at this time, and describe what constitutes a “good” and “bad” in-home tutoring session, from your perspective.

To Sum Up...

Our tutors are unique individuals with very diverse training, experience and educational approaches. It’s their creativity and resourcefulness, independence, confidence, boundless energy and love of their work that they have in common. Strong organization and paperwork skills also help greatly. Be sure to tell us how you would fit into our culture.

In exchange, we offer a respectful, professional, collegial and stable environment and remuneration that is significantly higher than most other services or agencies. Plus plenty of coffee and snacks – and access to our eclectic resource library whenever tutors come by the office.

The following is a comment from a tutor applicant who went on to become a very successful TTG tutor and mentor tutor. We think it quite neatly reflects who we are, what we do well and how we are different.

I’m applying to TTG because I have heard great things about you. Not only do you have high standards for your tutors and deliver quality services, but I’m told you provide your tutors with plenty of communication and support, and strive to match each student with just the right tutor. It also helps that other tutors praise you as just awesome people to work with… and doesn’t hurt either that you pay substantively higher than other agencies!
