Sarah Buckland

Office Manager and Personal Assistant at The Tutor Group

Sarah joined TTG in 2019 as Office Manager for The Tutor Group and Janyce’s Assistant. She is responsible for keeping the TTG office running smoothly, handling new inquiries and follow ups, and managing Janyce Lastman’s private education consultation practice. Sarah is also the primary liaison and first point of contact for clients, tutors and other professionals. Sarah brings 20 years of diverse experience to her role at TTG. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a BSc. in Zoology followed by a stint in the Paramedic program at Humber College, where she met her husband. To cover tuition costs, Sarah took a job in the corporate workforce, and to her surprise, actually thrived! With two vastly different choices looming, Sarah chose to focus on family life and her corporate career, where she ultimately specialized in corporate operations. While never using her education traditionally, both programs proved excellent training for her other full time job: mom to three active, bright and rather bouncy boys. She believes this also explains her prematurely grey hair and perpetually comfy wardrobe.

Sarah has held positions in a large payroll organization, as well as a tech start-up that grew quickly under her watchful eye, responsible for everything from Project and Office Management to Accounts Receivables. Just prior to starting at TTG, Sarah took some time away from the workforce to focus on personal growth and family development. Introduced to PTSD via her husband’s experiences as a Paramedic, Sarah is now an advocate for First Responders, Veterans, and their families, who face the pain and stigma of PTSD daily, yet persevere. On her own time, Sarah supports families and colleagues trying to navigate the ‘system’ and find resources and comradery. When time permits, Sarah also enjoys nature walks, gardening, baking, reading, travelling and improving her ‘soccer-mom’ skills. Sarah has always enjoyed children, whether peer-tutoring as a student, a Brownie leader at Sick Kids Hospital, or volunteering for her children’s (many!) school field trips and sports events. So she is thrilled to return to the workforce as part of a team dedicated to helping improve the lives of children and families.

Sarah’s peers value her empathetic ear, persistence, and easy-going nature. Forever an optimist, Sarah always looks for the bright side – and failing that, the humorous side of any situation. A natural problem solver and mediator, she is known for creative ‘out-of-the-box’ solutions. Eager to learn more about tutoring, various learning and teaching styles, and education consulting, Sarah has hit the ground running at TTG!
