Mary Webb
Administrative and Executive Assistant at The Tutor Group™
Mary is our new Administrative and Executive Assistant. She is responsible for keeping the TTG office running smoothly, handling new inquiries and follow ups, and managing Janyce Lastman’s private education consultation practice. Mary is also the primary liaison and point of contact for clients, tutors and other professionals.
Mary brings 30+ years of diverse experiences to her role at TTG. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science, Mary says that her career in the advertising industry was "accidental". Nonetheless, a 25-year career followed, culminating in her role as Media Vice-President and Advertising Sales Manager for television networks such as YTV, Teletoon and the W Network. Wanting more time with her own family, Mary made a brief switch to luxury fashion management, only to discover she preferred shopping to retail sales! Most recently, Mary has found herself in high demand working as an EVA (Executive Virtual Assistant) for small companies and individuals involved in healthcare, human resource and law.
Mary battled the school system herself on behalf of her own children for many years. She saw how bullying and exclusion, teacher favoritism and student boredom erode a child’s confidence and social standing, and how accommodations and strategies can still be overlooked or ignored even when clearly written into IEPs. She empathizes with today’s families searching for what’s best for their children, as they navigate the complex and ever-changing landscapes of school selection, post-secondary programming, special education, mental health and medical supports.
Mary and her husband live in the north-west GTA where they delight in their expanding family: two adult children, new daughter-in-law and 2 “fur babies”— a cat and a dog. Outside of the office, Mary enjoys travel, interior decorating, entertaining and shopping, and remains an unrepentant fashionista! She enjoys good food nicely plated and loves to cook (especially when someone else cleans up!). Periodically she includes favourite recipes in her fashion/lifestyle blog. Keen to stay active, she golfs and plays squash, and recently took up Pickleball! Mary also enjoys reading, and recently has been delving into personal improvement books featuring leadership and self-help themes.
We appreciate Mary’s patience, calm nature and empathy. A keen listener with a gentle sense of humour, she communicates complex issues in a straightforward manner. Naturally methodical and detail-oriented plus technologically savvy, she is well-equipped to take care of business at TTG while also juggling Janyce’s diverse private practice, where she has considerable responsibility and autonomy. Welcome to TTG, Mary!
